2009 INSPIRATIONS!!!

I can't believe another year is coming to an end. Good riddance I say......2009 was not the best year for me, (started off great, ended terribly). So, needless to say, I'm super pumped for 2010. I'm finally out of my aircast, can put on my dancing shoes, and welcome 2010 in with a bang!
Not to say 2009 was all bad, I did have some great moments. Travelled...exciting trips with  family and friends, watched some great films and was definitely inspired by the world of fashion and beauty.

Here's what made my list of top inspirations for '09:

1. NYC- Of course...it's at the top of my list. I write about New York all the time and have nothing but amazing things to say about this great city. Was super impressed by Willamsburg, Brooklyn. Totally want to go back, in for nothing else but the hot guys! :)

2. GLASGOW- 2009 was my second trip to Glasgow and I have to say that it was just as amazing as the first time I went there. If going to the UK, Glasgow shouldn't be overlooked. It's quite the hub of artistic energy, great fashion, music and amazing curry!! ( the best I ever had was on Sauciehall st...brilliant)!
I also have a serious weakness for Scottish men. Love those baby-blues!

3. MARC JACOBS- This man is brilliant and I have loved everything he has done this year. Not to mention he's looking amazing these days. Can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve for 2010.

4. HAIR AND MAKE-UP- This is on he list, not only is it because it is my job to know what the latest trends are for hair and makeup are, but because I am border line obsessed with the world of beauty. That's why I do what I do, to create and inspire. I wouldn't have it any other way.

5.1950's- This will probably be on my list every year. I love pin-ups and anything to do with the look of the 1950's.  Besides being somewhat of a feminist, I was born in the wrong era.

6. MADMEN- So now we've moved on to 1963. Don Draper, hot! Betty= my girl crush January Jones. I love the writing, the sets, the characters.....want to become Joany....is that too much to ask? (Joany minus her loser husband though).

7. FILMS- Topping my list of films for 2009 was Inglourious Bastards. Say what you will, but I still love Tarantino. I'm not so big on all the violence... but the acting, costumes, sets, storyline, were all superb. I still love that scence with Shosanna getting ready, (near the end) with the Bowie song playing in the background....AMAZING! My friend Erin will know what I'm talking about.

So, that rounds off my list of inspirations for 2009. I may have forgotten a few things, but this is what comes to mind right off the bat.  What has been a source of inspiration for you in '09? Anything in common?

Marc Jacob- spring 2010 makeup

I'm loving the theatrical, gothic-like makeup at Marc Jacobs spring 2010 show. (The hair you can tell was very much inspired by ballet dancers). Very pale faces and a certain air from the 80's "New Romantic" scene...... Siouxsie Sue, or Adam Ant, anyone?
I can't say this is an everyday (wear to the office) kind of look. But one can take certain elements from the look to update their style. That tight bun would not be very comfortable to wear, but I love it for the runway, especially because it lets the makeup really shine.
What do you think? What other runway looks for 2010 inspire you? What will you be changing/ updating for the new trends?

NYC Randoms- Dec 09

I haven't really posted anything this week.......I know, I'm bad. Futhermore, I am nursing a wee bit of a hangover right now. (From a work party that my sister asked me to attend......boy, can those lawyers drink!) So, this  is going to be a "randoms" post of pics from a trip that I took, with girlfriends, to NYC...... and I promise to that the next couple of postings after this, won't be lame. :)
p.s. I really need some Advil

Ok, this is a given. If you're up for the insanity, it's a great place to find some designer deals. The men's section is really worth a visit for all the chaps out there, looking for ties, jeans etc.

This is my artistic shot. lol
But seriously Marc Jacobs? LOVE him
(Below the ad were tiles made in remembrance of lost loves ones from 9-11. So sad).

This shot was taken while we were walking through Brooklyn. LOVE Brooklyn.
On a side note, we had the BEST brunch in Brooklyn, and for the life of me, I couldn't remember the restaurant's name. Well, I found the card for "Barberry" a couple of days ago. And really, I'm dying to go back.

This is the inside of the restaurant. Love the exposed brick!

Lastly, (this has nothing to do with NYC) but I really miss True Blood. When is season 3 airing?

All pics (except the first barberry), are courtesy of Stells and Co. Yeah!

New York part 1- Bleecker st

In November, I'm off to NYC with some of my favourite gal pals. We've travelled several times to New York, each time was a total blast. This time will be no exception. Some of my favourite experiences in NYC have been on Bleecker Street.
This is were I purchased my first pair of Marc Jacobs sunglassses. (Marc, by Marc Jacobs to be exact).
I think that this trip I will pick-up another pair. Can't wait!!!

Then, I will be on my way to Magnolia Bakery. magnoliacupcakes.com The best cupcakes!!! Katie Holmes used to bring Suri there, when she was acting on Broadway.  There is usually a huge line-up, but seriously worth the wait.

After, my sugar high....I will continue to walk down Bleecker Street, (with my friends and a large latte) to check out all the other boutiques.... in search of a new handbag. Fall is the most exciting time of the year to be in New York. The energy is amazing and there's something out seeing the leaves change that reminds me that change can be good. Change can be very good.
