Spring/Summer 2009 Hair and Makeup Trends Part 1 of 2

I'm excited to say that the catwalk trends for hair and makeup, Spring/Summer 2009 are the best looks we've seen in a while. They are diverse and for the most part, totally wearable.
Like a lot of you, I am sooooo over the Rihanna/Posh Spice haircut. It's old, it's dated, let's move on!
I have assembled (what I think) are the top trends for this Spring/Summer. I have embraced a lot of these looks myself and a lot of my clients have as well. If you are currently looking to update your look, this would be a good place to start. It doesn't have to be a huge overhaul. Start small, swap your everyday "go-to" lipstick for one of the new spring colours. Vintage red?.....I dare you!
Rimmed Eyes
It's all about the black kohl liners this season, ladies. If you don't have any in your makeup bag, invest in some. This look is all over the catwalks! Whether it's rimmed along the lash line and then followed with smokey shadow (see pic above) or worn alone, this look is a must have for spring/summer 2009. Hot for a night out on the town!
Retro Red Lips
Finally, the return of the red lips!!! I love it! I especially love the hue of this season's red. It is has a slight orange undertone, very retro...and totally glamorous. On a lot of the catwalks, this lip was paired with fresh, dewy skin and not a lot of strong eye makeup, leaving the lip as the main focal point. I say, "jump right in and try this look". If you are a little fearful....because you don't really see yourself as a "red lipstick person", try a gloss! There are so many sheer red glosses out there, just explore.
The Long Bob
This is such a versatile haircut. It's a really flattering cut on most face shapes. It shows off the collar bone (beautiful) and the cheekbones, when paired with some face framing layers. I especially love how Anne Hathaway is wearing this look with disheveled waves. Very current. Gwyneth Paltrow is another celeb who is wearing this look, experimenting with curly and straight styles. Two totally different ways to wear this cut, both look great. Again, this is a really versatile, adaptable haircut. For the ladies, (you know who you are) with dry, over-processed ends...cut them off! It's time for a fresh new look.
Bronze Glow
There was a lot of beautiful sun-kissed skin on the runways this season. Just checkout the pic above. It's that fresh "All-American" look, that that makes you want to hangout on a beach in California. Lauren Conrad from "The Hills" made this look hugely popular, along with her front braid, (from season's past). This look is all about the bronzer baby. A cheek high-lighter wouldn't hurt either.
Lazy Waves
This look has been dubbed "lazy waves" because of it's effortless look and appeal. As you can see there is not a lot of curl at the root area. Try round brushing your hair to smooth it out and then and some wavy with your flat iron. (Yes, you can curl with a flatiron, for those who didn't know). Once you have added some waves, break it up...by putting some finishing product in to give it more of a disheveled look. Hot!!
Stay tuned for part 2!!!
xo,
S.
