Holiday Gift ideas #1- Fashion Books

The Holidays are a great time of year.
It can also be a stressful time of year, when trying to figure out what to buy everyone on your Christmas list.  For the fashion forward people on your list, design books can be a real hit. Not to mention that they look great on a coffee table or bookshelf.

Here are some of my top books, that have made the Stells and Co shopping list:

Elle Style Awards 2011

I was super excited to see all the fashions from the 2011 Elle Style Awards.  Anyone who knows me, (or has been reading this blog for a while...) knows that I LOVE British fashion. (Borderline obsession...lol) I particularly love the Elle Style Awards because it always brings such a great, fashionable crowd. And this year, certainly didn't disappoint!

Who were your fav's from the night?

Alexa Chung in YSL

Blake Lively in Pucci

Christopher Kane, won British Designer of the year. Love him!

Canadian Model Coca Rocha, looking fab in Alexander McQueen

Courtney Love in Givenchy Couture

Emma Watson in Hakaan

Strapless at the SAG awards.....

I know that I'm a little behind on my posting of the SAG awards. My computer has been acting weird and I'm just waiting for a replacement adapter cord.
Anyways, I always love to see what the stars are wearing during any sort of award show and the SAG's did not disappoint. I did notice a ton of strapless gowns on the red carpet and here are my favourites:

Mila Kunis, in Alexander McQueen.

Natalie Portman in Azzaro

Julia Stiles in Monique Lhuillier

Kelly MacDonald in Reem Acra
(my fav of the night)

On the fence about Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton

What do you think?

R.I.P.- Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen has been an idol of mine since I was about 17. At that time, I had switched high schools (much to my Mother's dismay) from an academic collegiate to a technical school. I made the move, so I could go to a school that offered courses in fashion design. After graduating, I went on again to pursue studies in fashion design, at a local college in Toronto. What I actually wanted to do was attend "Central St.Martin's" in London, England for their courses in fashion & design. This is the school that many of the "greats" attended. John Galliano, Stella McCartney....and of course Alexander McQueen.
McQueen utterly fascinated me. His work was a combination of anarchy and punk...mixed in with his precise tailoring ablities. (Which he acquired while training at the prestigious Saville Row, in London).  It was like Yin and Yang together, and his designs were simply out of this world. The energy that surrounded McQueen when he took over the reigns at Givenchy was really exciting for me as a student and I looked forward to seeing what he would create season after season.
I obviously never met McQueen, but he was a part of my life for many years. He will be greatly missed....it is so very tragic.  Another great dies too soon.
